Intermovers Malaysia eliminates plastic tape from packaging

Intermovers Malaysia has outlawed the use of plastic tape (OPP) in an effort to reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste produced by its packaging departments.

Intermovers cartonsThe company is instead using 100% recyclable gummed tape, which it says is ideal for use in the high temperatures of South East Asia.

Intermovers’ Move Specialist Julian Wilkinson explained, “Our packing crews have reduced the amount of OPP plastic tape to the point we now only use recyclable gum tape.”

“The tape is the same finish as the cardboard cartons, it looks very professional and produces zero waste. With the high temperatures and humidity here in South East Asia, you can imagine when loading an FCL container in 35C heat the OPP tape just doesn’t react well. Once attached to the cartons the gum tape is 100% secure and seals the cartons.”

The switch to gum tape is part of Intermovers’ overall policy of reducing waste and reusing materials whenever possible. The company has received recognition from the Malaysian Dutch Chamber of Commerce in recognition of its sustainability policy. #sustainability
