Extraordinary measures in place in Mexico City to combat pollution

Apr 07, 2016
Trafimar Relocation Services in Mexico City has advised that due to absence of rain and wind, the greater Mexico City area is experiencing an abnormal situation of pollution which has forced city and state authorities to enforce extraordinary measures to combat the situation.
The usual rule of forbidding car circulation one day a week to older cars or non-emission free cars has been extended to all cars, including new cars.  The rule also now applies two days a week, including weekends, and including all trucks, big or small. This rule is subject to a day-by-day confirmation for the following day, which is made known by the authorities not earlier than 6pm of the previous day.

This second rule is severely disrupting all transport activities in and around Mexico City.  At this moment, lines of over 10 miles are advised for all entrances to the greater Mexico City Area, especially from Veracruz, Manzanillo, Laredo, etc.  This situation causes delays in pickups and deliveries, including from and to ports of loading, and extra demurrage and storage costs might be incurred.

Even personnel movement has become difficult as it is estimated that over 1.5 million cars will remain parked each day, including those owned by Trafimar and its staff. Public transportation cannot accommodate such an excess.

Trafimar said that it is doing its best to maintain appointments, schedules and ships’ cut off times, and asks for the understanding of its international partners should it sometimes fail.

More information will be supplied as the situation develops.
