Going the Extra Mile for Fight for Sight

A - Staff Solutions Ltd’s removal specialist, Steve Fanning, is ditching boxes for running shoes as he limbers up to run the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 26 April.

35-year-old Steve, who often works for Interdean, Christies and Jamie Briggs Removals and Storage Ltd, will be joining thousands of runners to take on the gruelling 26.2 mile challenge across the capital to raise vital funds and awareness for his chosen charity Fight for Sight.

This will not be the first time Steve has pounded the streets of his native London in aid of Fight for Sight, the UK’s leading charity that funds pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye diseases. In 2014 Steve ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon, completing the 13.1 mile course in just under two hours and raising over £600.

The half marathon, which Steve found very inspiring, has spurred him on to tackle bigger and tougher challenges, “I would now like to increase my challenge to try and raise even more money for Fight for Sight,” said Steve. “I’ve seen the devastating impact that sight loss can have on someone’s life, as my 93-year-old Nan has age-related macular degeneration which has caused her to lose her sight.”

Steve’s determination to excel is unrelenting and he follows a strict routine of getting up at 5:00 am each morning to train. He hopes to complete the marathon in just over four hours and raise a further £2,000 for Fight for Sight.

Catherine Woodhead, Director of Fundraising at Fight for Sight, said, "We would like to wish Steve the best of luck with his training and for choosing to raise awareness and vital funds for Fight for Sight. A huge thank you to Steve and all our other runners for taking part in this year's marathon and literally going that extra mile for Fight for Sight. Good luck and we will be there to cheer you on every step of the way."
