Martins Removals & Storage in Scotland has taken a significant step towards future-proofing its fleet with the purchase of a new Mercedes-Benz ACTROS 1832 (18T, 320bhp) removal truck from Mac’s Truck Sales.
The investment comes as the company looks to replace an aging vehicle, comply with Low Emission Zone (LEZ) regulations, and enhance its operational efficiency.
Martins was founded in 1984. "We’ve been fortunate to maintain a strong client base despite the economic uncertainty of the past 18 months," said Caroline Martin, Director at Martins Removals & Storage. "With an increasing number of people and businesses relocating, we needed a truck that could meet all our operational needs while ensuring compliance with Scotland’s tightening emissions laws."
The new Mercedes-Benz ACTROS is Euro 6-compliant, meaning it meets the latest LEZ requirements in cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow. This allows Martins Removals & Storage to continue serving clients without the risk of incurring extra charges or restrictions on their movement.
Martins worked closely with Mac’s Truck Sales to customise the truck to its exact needs, including: 8-door layout; 2-tonne cantilever tail lift; motion-sensitive interior lighting; underbody locker storage and tie rails; and 3-Star DVS Kit to comply with London visibility and safety regulations. "The additional safety features of the 3-Star DVS kit made it a no-brainer for us,” said Caroline. “It’s an extra layer of pedestrian safety that we’re happy to have on board."
Mac’s Truck Sales is based in Huddersfield. “From our first conversation with Peter at Mac’s to the moment we took delivery, the service was outstanding,” said Paul Martin, Director at Martins. “They listened to our needs, offered expert advice, and delivered a truck that exceeded our expectations. The whole process was smooth, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the final result. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mac’s to anyone in the removals industry - they know their stuff, and they build incredible trucks."
Scotland’s Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are set to become fully enforced in 2025, with non-compliant HGVs facing fines of up to £480 per day. This means that removal companies must act now to upgrade older vehicles or risk costly restrictions on where they can operate.
