In a wide-ranging interview, The Mover discussed with Fox Moving & Storage Director Dan Fox how the company has successfully steered its way through significant industry changes.
For Dan Fox, Director of Fox Moving & Storage, the removals industry is more than a career - it is part of his family heritage.
Growing up, “moving” was part of everyday life, and his earliest experiences shaped his leadership style today.
“From packing boxes to cleaning lorries, I learned the work from the ground up,” recalls Dan. “I spent time with the crews, handling belongings with care, and supporting customers through what is often one of the most stressful days they will experience.”
Alongside this practical grounding, Dan studied Business Studies at university. Even as a student, he remained closely involved with the company, applying academic theory to operational realities.
“Throughout my degree I continued to work part time in the business, applying academic ideas to real operational challenges,” he explains.
After graduating, he returned full-time, working his way up from porter to surveyor, into operations, then branch management, before stepping into his current director role with company-wide responsibility.
“That mix of hands-on experience and formal study has shaped the way I lead,” Dan reflects. “I make decisions that work both on the day for our teams - and over the long term for the organisation.”
A family enterprise
Fox Moving & Storage is a family-owned company with over 50 years of history. Dan runs the business alongside his brother Mike, while their father Paul remains an invaluable mentor.
“Family has always been central to Fox Moving & Storage,” Dan says. “Mike and I are effective partners, bringing different perspectives but always sharing the same values. Our father Paul continues to provide invaluable guidance with his decades of experience.”
That balance of family continuity and professional governance has allowed Fox to combine resilience with adaptability. A strong board of directors and senior management team ensure stability, while also helping the company evolve.
With eight locations - Cardiff, Newport, Bristol, Cwmbran, Stourbridge, Southampton, Taunton and Salisbury - Fox enjoys regional strength while offering true national coverage through long-standing partnerships.
