How Jan Denning is bringing venue expertise to the removals and storage sector through her Hospitality Partnership business.
With over 30 years in hotels and hospitality, MIA (Meeting Industry Association) awards winner for ‘delivering excellence’, Jan Denning of Hospitality Partnership has recently dedicated her expertise to the removals and storage sector.
Jan explains how it started: “Over the past five years, I’ve been fortunate to work closely with the removals and storage industry through The Movers and Storers Show (TMSS). In my role, I’ve supported the show with sales and marketing, venue sourcing, and hotel bedroom pricing negotiations and contracting. What began as a simple project – and not knowing anyone in the sector - has now grown into something more, I’ve learned so much and come to really admire this sector, the opportunities it has, the people in it and proud of the amazing people I have met and connections made. It excites me!”
Free service support
It is through this involvement, and long term collaborations with both The Movers & Storers Show and the insights gained from The Mover magazine, that has resulted in the launch of this free service to support our sector.
Richard Pegler, TMSS Director and Publisher of The Mover magazine, had this to say about the partnership and the service we can now afford to the industry: “We are delighted to be working with Jan and the Hospitality Partnership on this exciting initiative. With so many companies in our sector hosting internal and customer events, finding the right location is a critical part of the process. Having access to Jan’s experience and expertise will be invaluable, and we are confident this new service will add real value to the removals and storage community.”
Time-consuming work
Jan comments: “I’ve seen the vast number of events that go on throughout the year, and I’ve noticed a recurring challenge for many storage and removal companies when it comes to finding the right venues and hotels for their conferences, expos, training sessions, and team events, regardless of whether it’s a simple meeting for ten people or a conference for 500 plus. And it’s time consuming!”
She continues: “From conversations I’ve had, this task is added onto someone’s role, someone who already has a busy job, with KPI’s attached and little time (or perhaps knowledge and the contacts) to know where to start in sourcing a venue, and a task where there is no KPI attached!"
The result? Time-consuming research, calls to generic phone numbers and e-mail addresses, slow responses, if any response at all, and the risk of missing out on the perfect venue and location that could really give an event its “wow” factor, and falling back on their ‘proper job’.
Meeting objectives
That’s where Jan and the Hospitality Partnership can help. With more than 30 years of experience in the hotel and hospitality world, and thousands of contacts, she’s built a career on knowing where to look, who to call, and how to negotiate the best fit for every type of event. Venue finding isn’t just about a space and a budget, it’s about matching a company’s objectives and expectations, what they want their delegates to get out of it, and experience, whilst ensuring everyone feel they’re in exactly the right setting.
“The removals and storage sector is fast-moving and constantly evolving,” confirms Jan, “and managers and teams need to keep their focus on running and growing their businesses, not chasing down hotel bedrooms or conference packages. By partnering with me, and it is a true partnership, you gain access to expertise, networks, and experience without it costing you anything financially, and giving you back time to focus on your key responsibilities.”
Apart from its free venue finding service, Jan can offer more than just the venue - her network can also provide event management, AV, and the behind-the-scenes support that makes an event run smoothly.
