Dimerco earns ISO 14064-1 environmental certification and sets carbon reduction goal

Global freight forwarder Dimerco has been certified to the ISO 14064-1:2018 Standard for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removal.

George Chiou, President of Dimerco Express Corporation, receives the ISO 14064-1 certification from certifying agency DNV. Dimerco has established a goal to reduce total Category 1 and 2 emissions by 18% by 2030 and to use 100% renewable energy for purchased electricity for offices by 2050. Dimerco Express Corporation President, George Chiou, received the ISO 14064-1 certification from certifying agency DNV in Taipei on 3 November, 2022.

Category 1 emissions are direct emissions from company-owned and controlled resources. Category 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy from a utility provider.

In mid-2022, Dimerco’s subsidiary in China was certified to the ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) Standard. The new

ISO 14064-1 certification was the result of rigorous third-party verification by DNV, which gave Dimerco the highest possible rating for adherence to the GHG measurement standards.

Dimerco’s green initiatives include the development of mobile applications to support a paperless work environment, recycling, water conservation and energy saving. In early 2022, Dimerco began participating in the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) the recognised global standard for environmental reporting. That participation involves completing a climate change questionnaire and providing details of the company’s environmental management and governance programme.

A statement issued by Dimerco’s Central Service Center noted, “Sustainability and responsible operations are important priorities for Dimerco and for our customers, who expect us to meet the highest standards. We are working to continually improve our environmental credentials, and the achievement of ISO 14064-1 certification verifies the strength of our processes and methodology to measure and reduce GHG emissions.”

Dimerco will further its commitment to greener freight practices by participating in the GHG reduction programmes of the Smart Freight Centre – an international non-profit organisation focussed on reducing greenhouse gas emission from freight transportation.
