According to a survey performed by Maris Interiors, the recession has even hit the quality of sandwiches supplied at business meetings.
Is there an area of business that the global recession has yet to impinge? Is nothing sacred? According to a survey performed by Maris Interiors, even the quality of the sandwiches supplied at business meetings is in decline.
According to the report 80% of employees think the quality of sandwiches at their business meetings has fallen. Quite why an interiors company should spend its valuable time researching such a thing we can only guess but, presumably they have their reasons.
The average cost of sandwiches per person at meetings currently stands at a miserly £3.80. When the survey was first conducted in 2006, the average cost was just under £6 per person.
Popular sandwiches back in 2006 included ‘crayfish and avocado’ and ‘chicken teriyaki’ – but today ‘cheese and pickle’ and ‘tuna and sweetcorn’ featured much more heavily in the survey. Whatever next! They’ll be telling us that business meetings no longer serve Chateauneuf du Pape and Beluga caviar next. Is there really any hope for us?
Maris Interiors’ Chairman Michael Howard said “It’s a sign of these austere times that companies are spending much less on sandwiches in the boardroom. It’s certainly a sensible way to cut costs, but be careful not to overdo it: you won’t impress a client with jam sandwiches!”
The study surveyed 185 people in February, 2011.
