Pickfords flagship storage facility is Europe’s largest unmanned, firesafe warehouse.

Pickfords has released a video of its flagship storage facility in Wembley www.pickfords.co.uk/wembley.  The facility is Europe’s largest unmanned, firesafe warehouse.

The warehouse, originally built by Trans Euro in the 1990s, is a unique facility with capacity for over 1800 20ft containers. The warehouse covers the equivalent floor space of 14 tennis courts and is completely automated, unmanned and operates in an eerie half light. The building itself is even designed to look like a stack of containers from the outside.

As the warehouse is unmanned it doesn’t have to be heated or lit and it can work through the night, moving steel containers backwards and forwards to a schedule controlled by a unique computer system.

Security is high on the list of features and the Wembley facility has 24-hour security and cameras for CCTV surveillance. The containers are also fireproof and would automatically seal the doors and floors in the unlikely event of a fire.
