UK’s brightest female stars have until 13 February 2012 to enter leading industry awards.
There is less than a month to go for the UK’s brightest female talent within transport and logistics to enter the MAN everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards, which champion role models and showcase the breadth of opportunities available to women.

Amidst headlines of economic downturn and youth unemployment, this sophisticated and complex sector offers an abundance of fulfilling career opportunities. With 2.3 million people employed in transport and logistics – a staggering one in eight of all workers* – there are clearly numerous opportunities for women at all levels.
There is however a need to highlight these opportunities. Recent research undertaken at the everywoman in Transport and Logistics Leadership Academy revealed that 29% of the women polled had found a role in transport and logistics by chance and only 26% had made a conscious decision to enter the sector. However, 83% of the women surveyed said that the sector fulfils their career aspirations and that is why it is so important to shine the spotlight on this vibrant industry. By setting out to champion success stories, creating ambassadors and female role models, these awards aim to attract and encourage more women to make it their sector of choice.

Woman of the Year Award This award will be selected by the judges and given to one enthusiastic and dedicated woman whose vision, innovative approach and success make her an outstanding role model, encouraging more women to choose a career in Transport and Logistics.
Maxine Benson, MBE, Co-founder and Director of everywoman, comments, “Transport and logistics play a vital role in society and is one of few areas showing consistent growth at a time of economic uncertainty. There are many opportunities for women and these awards seek to highlight this by shining the spotlight on those that are already succeeding within the sector. We encourage all organisations to identify and nominate their female talent thereby encouraging more to explore the opportunities offered. Not only are these awards a great way to reward existing success, but they also position participating organisations as those with serious career opportunities for women, helping them attract and retain the best female talent. This is a valuable opportunity to celebrate the role models that will inspire the talent of tomorrow.”
Des Evans, Chief Executive of MAN Truck and Bus UK adds, “Once again it’s a great pleasure for MAN Truck & Bus UK to be sponsoring the everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards. Our association with these awards dates back to 2008 and we are delighted and proud to be asked to be part of their success in 2012. In our 20th year in the UK, MAN has a long established reputation of encouraging women to enter and excel in what by many is seen as a traditionally male dominated industry. However this perception is continuing to diminish fast as growing numbers of energetic, career minded women choose to make a new start in the transport and logistics sector. If the high standard of the previous years’ nominees and winners are anything to go by these awards are proof to all the women working within this sector of what can be achieved. Good luck to all this years entrants in their chosen category.”
A glittering lunch and Awards Ceremony will be held at The Savoy in London on 17 May 2012 when the industry’s most successful women along with politicians, media and captains of industry will gather to honour outstanding female success.
Nominations will close on 13 February 2012 and entries can be made online from 1 December 2011 at www.everywoman.com/tlawards.
