The British Association of Removers (BAR) has appointed Andrew Large as its new Director General, following the retirement of Ian Studd, who led the Association for the past 10 years.
Andrew brings extensive experience from both UK and EU-level leadership and advocacy roles. Early in his career he worked in the European Commission in Brussels and in the steel industry, before moving into senior trade association positions. Since 2002 he has led several membership organisations, including the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) and, most recently, the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI), where he served as Director General for nine years.
Reflecting on his time at CPI, Andrew acknowledged the challenges of Brexit, COVID, the Ukraine war and wider trade disruptions, but highlighted how the industry’s reputation was strengthened during that period. He praised members’ active participation as the foundation of the Association’s success.
Between 2008 and 2011 Andrew also chaired the Trade Association Forum (TAF) and continues to contribute as a course facilitator.
As he begins his new role, Andrew has expressed enthusiasm for working with BAR’s members, building on the Association’s strong foundations, and ensuring the removals industry continues to have a powerful and respected voice.
