Renault Trucks has taken a major step forward in decarbonising its internal logistics by deploying a fully electric transport corridor linking its industrial sites at Blainville-sur-Orne, Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon.
The initiative is being delivered in partnership with haulier Malherbe and builds on earlier electrification work between Lyon and Bourg-en-Bresse.
The corridor operates on a just-in-time basis, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of key components to assembly lines. Heavy-duty truck cabs manufactured at Blainville-sur-Orne are transported to Bourg-en-Bresse for assembly, while engines and axles produced in Lyon are moved to Blainville-sur-Orne for medium-duty truck production. These strategic logistics flows are now handled almost entirely by 100% electric vehicles.
To support the operation, Renault Trucks and Malherbe are using a fleet of 22 Renault Trucks E-Tech T electric vehicles, split across two loops. Eleven vehicles operate on the northern route between Blainville, Vironvay and Auxerre, while a further eleven cover the southern loop linking Auxerre, Mâcon, Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon. Through a system of relay stops where tractors, drivers and trailers are swapped, each truck can cover up to 810 km per day without stopping the load.
Malherbe has invested in its own charging infrastructure at key locations along the corridor, allowing batteries to be recharged while drivers take mandatory rest breaks. The system maximises vehicle utilisation, with trucks operating up to 18 hours a day, while keeping drivers close to home.
By electrifying this critical logistics flow, Renault Trucks has demonstrated the maturity and reliability of its electric technology, achieving an annual reduction of 2,869 tonnes of CO₂.
