SOS expands conversions capacity

Storage on Site (SOS) has strengthened its in-house container modification capability with the installation of a new, weather-protected container conversions bay at its depot in Marchwood, Southampton.

SOS expands its conversions capacity The investment forms part of SOS’s wider focus on upgrading people, processes and facilities to support continued growth.

The dedicated conversions bay enables SOS to manage projects entirely in-house, from initial planning through to delivery. Led by conversions specialist Ashleigh Wilkins, the team provides bespoke modifications ranging from container kiosks, classrooms and offices to self storage “toppers” and multi-door units. Using CAD technology alongside an experienced team of welders and engineers, SOS can transform standard containers into tailored cabins and storage solutions to meet customer requirements.

To increase throughput and maintain quality year-round, SOS needed a workspace large enough to accommodate 40ft units while protecting both projects and staff from the elements. The company selected a 14m wide x 12.2m long  Zappshelter system, mounted on double-stacked shipping containers to provide the necessary clearance for machinery and handling equipment. The covered bay offers shelter from wind and rain, supporting consistent production regardless of season.

Ashleigh Wilkins said the dedicated workspace will help the team deliver “even better” modification projects, managed in-house from start to finish. Managing Director Neil Vickery added that SOS was delighted to have the new bay installed and that the business is keen to expand its container conversions offering in the months ahead.

SOS has already identified a pipeline of upcoming projects, including welfare facilities, bespoke multi-door units for self storage sites, timber-clad containers and classrooms. The family-owned company, with more than 55 years of experience, says the new facility reinforces its reputation for quality, reliability and innovative design - while enabling it to respond faster to customer demand for specialist containerised solutions.
