Logistics UK, the business group representing the logistics industry, has announced the launch of a brand-new eLearning course, Van Driver Safety Training, with the aim of ensuring the four million vans currently on the UK’s roads are being driven safely, efficiently and in compliance with government legislation.

David Jordan, Logistics UK The fully online course – launched officially at the Innovation and Technology in Transport Hub at Farnborough in June – is available to Logistics UK members and non-members alike. The course provides van drivers with a comprehensive overview of how to operate a van safely, including the rules of the road, driver fatigue, defensive driving, vehicle roadworthiness, and how to identify and report possible vehicle defects. The modules within the course also cover the importance of appreciating the powers of enforcement authorities, and advice on fuel efficiency and safe loading.

David Jordan, Deputy Operations Director of Services at Logistics UK said, “All van drivers are legally responsible for the road-worthiness of the vehicle they operate; along with their employer, they would be liable for prosecution if found to be operating a defective van. It is vital that anyone driving a van – whether using it to carry tools, equipment and materials, deliver goods, or to transport others – is aware of this responsibility and takes every possible step to ensure they are operating their vehicle safely and legally. Logistics UK’s brand-new virtual eLearning course, Van Driver Safety Training, provides van drivers with the toolkit they need to ensure they keep themselves and other road users safe throughout their working days; we are thrilled to launch this service.”

The course is available to purchase for £9.95 per use for Van Excellence Accredited Operators, £12.95 per use for members of Logistics UK and £17.95 per use for non-members.
