RHA launches electric HGV survey

Sep 22 | 2025

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) is urging operators to take part in a new survey designed to tackle payload and productivity challenges linked to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

The initiative follows the RHA’s recent Net Zero Survey and aims to gather operator insights that will shape industry policy, inform government support and ensure a fair transition to zero-emission road freight.

RHA Managing Director Richard Smith said: “We want to hear from operators across the country to ensure the government understands current BEV realities and practical barriers, and to ensure regulations incentivise and support a viable transition towards Net Zero.”

A key issue is the significant reduction in payload caused by the weight of electric batteries compared with diesel engines. This creates operational and financial challenges, particularly for smaller firms.

Survey results will support industry efforts to secure regulatory changes on vehicle weight and length.
