Advancing sustainable accommodation choices

Synergy Global Housing has introduced a new emissions tracking tool, CarbonSMART, designed specifically for the extended stay and serviced accommodation sector.

CarbonSMARTUnlike generic carbon calculators, CarbonSMART integrates Synergy’s detailed 33-question Green Leaf sustainability assessment with industry benchmark data to deliver property-specific emissions insights. The tool is embedded within Synergy’s existing SAPPHIRE platform, enabling users to view and filter carbon data, benchmark supplier performance, and monitor sustainability progress across regions and portfolios.

CarbonSMART provides nightly emissions metrics (mtCO2e or tCO2e) for each property, along with sustainability ratings and insights into provider-level environmental initiatives. Clients can assess their accommodation-related Scope 3 emissions and evaluate properties based on sustainability features, booking volume, and spend.

“CarbonSMART is a response to growing demand for transparency and actionable sustainability data,” said Cara Lingle, Synergy’s Vice President for Global Supply Chain and Sales. “It empowers clients and travellers alike to align their accommodation choices with corporate and personal environmental goals.”

Synergy’s Chief Technology Officer, Aaron Turner, added that the tool enhances the visibility of sustainability performance across the supply chain, offering partners a clear framework for emissions reporting and improvement.

CarbonSMART supports Synergy’s broader environmental goals, which include a 4% reduction in emissions in 2024, a Silver EcoVadis rating (top 15% globally), and a commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. The tool represents one of the first in the sector to offer scope-specific emissions integration directly within program management reporting.
