The International Association of Movers (IAM) has released a new white paper analysing the sharp cost increases that have reshaped the US moving and storage sector between 2020 and 2025.
The report highlights sustained rises of up to 80% in key areas including trailers, insurance, labour, fuel, and warehousing - costs that are putting long-term pressure on operators.
Drawing on data from insurance underwriters, wage indexes, fuel pricing databases, logistics research firms and suppliers, IAM notes that while the Consumer Price Index has risen 25% since January 2020, many moving industry inputs have escalated far faster.
The findings are particularly relevant for Transportation Service Providers (TSPs) and agents supporting the Defense Personal Property Program (DP3). IAM warns that without adjustments to align pricing policy with real-world operational costs, the Department of Defense risks losing access to reliable capacity, especially among small and mid-sized firms.
