Sustainable export packing

Removal companies and their customers are increasingly focusing their attention on sustainable packing. Simpson Packaging reviews some of the options available.

Branded paper blankets

Export wrapping has always been vital for the protection and safe passage of goods in transit, whether on domestic moves or - more crucially - on international relocations.

If items are not wrapped and packed correctly, there is a significant danger that they will not reach their destination intact - which risks hefty insurance claims, upset clients and damage to a removal company’s reputation.

It is therefore essential that the correct packaging materials are used to avoid this and also equally necessary to ensure the packaging is not harming the environment.

Cardboard box
The cardboard box is a mainstay of packaging - lightweight, durable and sustainable.

The real 'edge' in recent years is the development of strength; increasing paper weight and flute strength allows for extremely sturdy boxes, offering a much more cost-effective alternative to traditional wooden crates.

Plus, with new advancements in glues and kraft paper tapes removing the need for metal staples, whole boxes can be pulped as there is no longer any mixed material waste.

The wrap
Another main export wrapping product is the wrap itself. Around 25 years ago Simpson Packaging, in conjunction with Sansetsu, developed and launched the Bubble Blanket Furniture Wrap. Bubble blanket is quick to apply on a roll, printable, shower proof and it quickly became a mainstay of UK and European export wrapping material for many years with Simpson Packaging remaining the UK's leading supplier. Similar products such as Furni/Bubbl guard were also introduced as a result.
